URGENT! What are the Pros and Cons of Australia becoming a republic?

URGENT! What are the Pros and Cons of Australia becoming a republic?
eg. Pro: Australia would not have to look to the sovereign of another country for leadership and decision making. Con: Australia will have to change their money, flag and other important things which will be time consuming. Anything would help. Thanks in advance! xx 10 points for best answer! (:

Cons I feel that if we become a republic it will have a hidden cost. this being we should always remember this Country has a Constitution that was formed many years ago by men who had decent moral values and the attitude of not what's in it for me but one of what will this do to my and everyone else who lives here. Any change will result in the pollies trying to manipulate the constitution to fit their ideas of what's in it for my mob. It works well why change it remember it sacked Whitlam Powerful stuff when needed..

What jobs are there not enough people for in Australia?

What jobs are there not enough people for in Australia?
Because my mum is from ireland and when she was in her 20's she worked in Australia as a nurse and when she went back to ireland (because she was missing her family too much) they tried to make her stay with money and stuff as they had such a lack of nurses in Australia and am just wondering what other jobs they need in australia?

There is a whole list of Jobs that are in demand. Too much to list here. Check out http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/skilled-occupations/occupations-in-demand.htm
2 :
There has always been a demand for good hairdressers in Australia. I've heard that to become qualified it is quite a long apprenticeship though. Here's a list of vacancies at present. http://mycareer.com.au/jobs/-/trades/hairdressing/ Nurses are always in demand too and many of my UK female friends here in Australia have gained visas through that avenue.

Competent, honest and effective Politicians. We just cannot find enough of them. Out of 22 million people , all we get is liars and cheats.
4 :
Our list of needed occupations is the Skilled Occupations List (SOL). If you don't have qualifications and experience in one of the jobs on there, you will not get a work visa unless you have state government or employer sponsorship. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/new-list-of-occupations.pdf The MODL list given in the first answer was revoked on 8 February this year and is no longer valid. Hairdresser is one of the trades that was on the MODL and is not on the new SOL.

Where is the best place to live in Australia?

Where is the best place to live in Australia?
I know some people have asked this question already... but hopefully i can get new input. I currently live in Phoenix, AZ (America) and am looking for a total change for a bit... I wanted to check out Australia but I'm not sure where to go. Some people have said sydney and Melbourne. I need a place where I could possibly either serve at a restaurant or work in a salon eventually and make descent money to survive. And if anyone has been to Arizona and lives in Australia any comparisons and differences would be helpful:) Thanks

Your primary concern is going to be to get a visa to work and reside in Australia. WHERE you live will most likely be determined by where you get a job...if you are able to. Immigration to Australia is not easy...depends on you having a highly needed work skill. You could begin your visa research by seeing the site below. Obtaining a work visa, and permission to reside in Australia can easily take at least 3 years even in you have advanced college degrees and high tech skills. Australia has no shortage of workers for lower skill jobs, and no work visa program for those types of jobs...this is just the reality...same as other nations. Many people donot understand the complexity of immigration until they begin to research it. However, you ARE fortunate to live in the U.S. and have the opportunity to move to parts of the country that are totally different than where you now live..and have completely new experiences.

Having been to Arizona I would highly recommend Bondi Beach. I lived there for 7 months and had the time of my life!!! Seriously you should try it. The beach is amazing, the sea is amazing and the lifestyle is amazing. You will not regret your decision to go here should you go. Don't let the locals spoil for you, who will often say it’s touristy. It’s touristy for a reason - because it’s spectacular. Also, its an excellent place from which to tour the rest Sydney has to offer. You will never be bored in Sydney. There is a cliff walk that will blow your mind from Bondi to Coogee beach. There are probably about 15 salons in Bondi and it would be impossible not to get a great job as a waitress overlooking the ocean - Bondi is famous for its coffee shops! You're 20 mins by public transport to downtown Sydney. Enjoy!
3 :
Sydney and Melbourne are fine but Newcastle is another great place to be. Darby street is the place to work if you want to work in restaraunts.
4 :
You can work at a restaurant or salon in probably every city or town in Australia. If your income is not that high then i would recommend not going for Sydney or Melbourne because they are expensive places to live. I don't know what Arizona is like but you could try Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns...i could go on but once you get into the country it shouldn't be too hard for you to find a job and a home.
5 :
Adelaide http://www.discoveraustralia.com.au/south_australia/adelaide_australia.html Housings cheaper than the bigger cities and Adelaide is a wonderful place to live and work.

If our economy is "booming" then why is Australia having to fight so hard to keep inflation in check??

If our economy is "booming" then why is Australia having to fight so hard to keep inflation in check??
Apparently thanks to mining and other things Australia is making alot of money. So why then are we having huge problems with inflation and raising interest rates every 3 months?? I don't get it? are we damed if we do and damned if we don't? is it a case of either we just coast and not make any money as a country and thus keep inflation in check. or have a booming economy and have inflation kick us square in the nads? I don't know much about economics so if someone could please explain that'd be great.

Australia has inflation just because it is booming. There are several causes of inflation and a booming economy can have many of them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inflation One cause of inflation is an increase in the money supply. If people have more money but there isn't a lot more to buy, then prices will go up as people are willing to pay more than they were for the same goods. This kind of inflation is the common result of a windfall of some sort, such as high oil prices for countries such as Russia, Venezuela, etc. A classic example is when the Spanish brought all that gold and silver from "the New World" back to Europe. http://www.sjsu.edu/faculty/watkins/spgold.htm Another kind of inflation is called cost push. Sometimes the higher costs are caused by an outside event (such as the "oil shocks"), but it can also be caused by an economy which is so hot that it is hard finding enough workers. To attract workers, companies have to offer more, raising costs, and causing inflation. Economists speak of the "Non-Accelerating Inflation Rate of Unemployment" in attempting to formalize this idea (though no one actually knows how to compute the NAIRU or even how constant it is.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NAIRU As for "damed if we do and damned if we don't", what else is new? Everything else in life has to be done in a balanced way, why not the economy? Is eating too much good for you? What about not eating enough? Ditto for exercising, working, etc. Also, remember all those stories about getting what you wish for and how badly they all turn out? (Every culture has at least one. The classic Greek story was Midas and his golden touch.) They are there to warn you. Be careful what you wish for.

STEAL FROM YARDS AND GO TO CORNER AND YELL PAPER PAPER READ ALL ABOUT IT
2 :
Contact the paper you want to work for. If there is an opening you will be considered. (Depending on the child labor laws there) (Dunno, that, I'm in US.)
3 :
The first thing you need to do is get a paper. It should tell you right on the newspaper who to contact about a paper route. or look in your local phone book for Brisbane Herald, or whatever they call your paper there. Give them a phone call and ask them if they are looking for paper carriers. Or you could mow peoples lawns, or even wash cars.. Good luck :--)

Walk around your neighborhood and look for stuff that needs to be done. Tree trimming, lawn mowed, fence repair, weeds pulled, plantings, mulch, painting houses or fences. Rent a pressure washer and clean driveways and the siding and brick on houses. In late November early December offer to put up Christmas lights. You are going to hear the word "no" a lot. Keep a positive attitude. Do a good job and be polite and the work will eventually start finding you. Good luck.

I remember those days when i almost get mad to find one free survey site that really pay us without charging a fee. The fact is that there are so many survey sites in internet who actually charges a registration fee. I tell you what, run as far as you can, if they ask you money to join their survey site. Any legimate survey site, will not ask you money to join them They actually have to pay us if we join them some people do not understand this, and they pay and later they suffer and get frustrated. So is there really any Survey site that pays us? The Answer is, Yes. I am personally getting paid by a Survey site and please find the below website and register yourself for free, http://surveyadventure.freehostia.com/ http://easywaymoney.freehostia.com/

ey, The number one most legit ptc out there has to be NEOBUX! It has a $2 cashout but you can make way more than that. Some people make around $2,000 a month. If you dont believe me click the link and sign up. also check out the forum if you need proof. has tons of payment proofs and even some video's. As for me i make about $1 a day now but have made $5 a day before! Here's a link hope you like it and stick to it. Its going to start out slow at first but (depending how good you are at managment) its easy a pie to make lots of money. http://www.neobux.com/?r=TromboneBeast If this works good for you then there's an up-and-coming site called buxwiz which is basicly the same thing. i don't know too much because it is still in the pre-launch but if you sign up now you get a special pioneer bonus so couldn't hurt i did. http://www.buxwiz.com/r?r=TromboneBeast....
