What are tips for saving money while I vacation in Australia?
I'm going to Australia for a couple of weeks, and I want to buy souvenirs for my family, but without buying overpriced tourist knick knacks. How can I make sure I'm getting a good deal for my spending money without getting ripped off?

hmmm, well probably don't buy souveniers at the airport. it depends on where you are going. if you are going to melbourne you will probably get the best value for money at the queen victoria market

go to aldi if your in melbourne:) its cheaper than safeway but safeway is good too, also check out the local produce and farming markets - im in the country and theres allways fresh food around. It depends on the state and if your going country or city. In the melbourne city theres heaps of alleyways with yummy stuff - check out waffle on! the waffles are amaziiiiiingggggggg! hmm...I dont know what tourist-y stuff there is- they might have souvenirs at the zoo or aquariam :) good luck! hope you love it here

Don't go to the regular "touristy" shops. Go to the markets - ones where they makes stuff rather than a 2nd hand type - and buy something there... Somewhere like Eumundi Markets on the Sunshine Coast - there are plenty of others around...

go to Perth! :) there isn't really many places you will get ripped off, mostly all tourist shops are pretty cheap, just the zoo and other places like that are a rip off, you well end up spending a fortune, there are usually some nice things in tourist shops, it just depends on how much you are willing to spend. make sure you know what the average price of things are in Australia before you buy something, otherwise you could buy things without even knowing you've spent a lot. have a great time :) australia is great!

In Sydney go to Paddy's markets, very close to Central station. There are heaps of stalls and shops there that sell tourist souvenirs at cheap prices.
