How do old people survive in Australia and America with the insane health care expenses?In
Australia, one night in the hospital will cause $800. This does not
include the complicated operations and treatments. Insurance? I don't
think so.... it costs more than $1000 per month for a good insurance
coverage. An average person can't pay that much money.
And worst of all, you don't make any money if you're too old to work.
Everybody is bound to get sick when they are old. So how do old people
survive in these countries?

up for retirement and working your entire life to pay into Social
Security and Medicare. If you don't have the money, you either have to
live with family members or on the street.

health insurance is a good thing its a wonder to me how people survive
on universal health care. Its all individual worth in America meaning
if your broke or dint have enough to buy it yea your screwed but society
as a whole doesn't want you either.....shoulda gone to college
Medical professions become a joke on gov. wages in which case health

The Solution is to regulate the insurance companies premiums and unfair
tactics better not necessarily give it away

So far we
have medicare! but the cost is going up and up. We are not getting
increase in the money coming in , but we are in the money going out!
Then we have to have a supplement for what medicare does not pay! The
cost of this coverage is also going up and up! On top of that , we now
have out of pocket costs for our medication! Again, the cost is going up
and up.
Obama took $500,million out of Medicare to use else where. One of them
being , that a child 26 and under can be insured under his Parents
policy. He used the other money towards his Obamacare!
HC was suppose to be for the poor and the first ones to pay for it , ARE
THE POOR!

We all have medicare, and a decent supplemental to cover most other necessary costs are not too expensive.

- you have it right but Australia? We have universal health care here-
one night in hospital costs nothing. It is all covered whether you are
unemployed or a millionaire - it costs nothing. I have private insurance
and it only costs $70 a month in Australia - covers private health
insurance, dental and optical.

Australia has had
universal health coverage for all Australian citizens since the 1980s
when Medicare was created by the Australian Government - it is public
health insurance. If you are hospitalized it is free under Medicare.
Employment status is not a prerequisite to medical assistance - Medicare
is funded by taxpayers by a 1.5% levy on incomes over $20,000. If you
don't work you don't pay the levy.
There are some parts of the health system which still require
prepayment, but Medicare will refund part or all of the payment that an
individual makes. Private health cover, which is subject to a 30% rebate
under law, can also be used to pay for treatment. The average amount
for private singles health insurance (hospital and general extras) is
about $26 a fortnight.
The system is pretty similar to the NHS in England. It is well known
that medical costs in America are relatively high - consider this quote
from Ozzy Osbourne's biography, talking to his doctor in America about
recent rib surgery (a quad bike accident).
"Nice work... what'd this cost, six, seven figures?" "No. It was free on
the NHS." "Bloody hell! No wonder you lot put up with the weather!"

In Australia - private health insurance. I have the premium and I pay approx. $200 per month. I use private hospital etc.
